Wall Street Journal — Wal-Mart to Cut 7,000 Back-Office Store Jobs

The world’s largest company by revenue is eliminating approximately 7,000 store accounting and invoicing positions over the next few months. The individuals in these jobs perform functions such as managing their individual store’s accounts payable and cash flow. Much of this work will be handled by a central office. Cash will be counted by new “cash recycler” machines in each store. (read)


CPA Practice Advisor — Is the Future Supply of CPAs Threatened?

3 out of 4 current CPAs are projected to retire in the next 15 years. Will there be enough new CPAs to replace them? Even though a record number of college students are majoring in accounting, a new study by the Illinois CPA Society says that only about a third of them will go on to become CPAs. (read)
